MPA promote Shaunice
Hawkins to VP, Diversity and Multicultural Initiatives (April
16, 2007) Charles “Chuck” McCullagh, Senior Vice President, Member
Services, Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) announced two promotions
today. Shaunice Hawkins has been promoted to Vice President, Diversity &
Multicultural Initiatives, from Director, Diversity Development, while
Elvira Perez, formerly Director, Professional Development, has been named
Vice President, Education Services.
Ms. Hawkins, who joined MPA in 2004, has created dynamic programs and
materials to help the magazine industry recruit and retain a diverse work
force that reflects the realities of today’s multicultural society. She
will broaden her role to bring resources and Best Business Practices to
the growing ethnic magazine communities, while continuing to explore
opportunities that demonstrate the positive business case for diversity
through research, town halls and coalition building.
Ms. Perez had many significant accomplishments in the last year including
the transformation of MPA’s Professional Development division into a
financially sound, dynamic enterprise that has met the fast-changing needs
of a membership in transition. She has also effectively projected the
association’s assets, through technology and on-site presence, to MPA
constituents throughout the country. She will assist with similar efforts
for the Latin American market. Ms. Perez has been with MPA since 1997.
“Shaunice and Elvira have both demonstrated excellence in their positions
and have far exceeded management expectations in their work,” said Mr.
McCullagh. “We look forward to even greater contributions from them in
the areas of multicultural program development and education services.”
