EMC wins gold and silver in Service Industry Advertising Awards

(April 7, 2006) Eugene Morris (left) and his Chicago-based E. Morris Communications agency earned two accolades from the Service Industry Advertising Awards for their outstanding work in public relations and advertising. In the 3rd Annual SIAA Awards, EMC received the Gold Award for its "On the Move to Improve For You" public information campaign developed for the Illinois Department of Transportation. EMC's "Protection Under One Roof" campaign for American Family Insurance (AFI) received a Silver Award.

The IDOT "On the Move to Improve For You" is an ongoing integrated marketing campaign developed to prepare the general Chicago and northwest Indiana market for the massive Dan Ryan and Kingery Expressway reconstruction projects expected to be completed in 2007. The campaign includes press material, print and radio ads, and collateral pieces including posters, flyers, door hangers and newsletters designed to communicate the challenges during construction and the benefits of the completed projects to motorists. Campaign materials showcase IDOT engineers as "Road Doctors" wearing a physician's overcoat and stethoscope and feature eye-catching tag lines such as: "Working on a cure for rush hour" and "Performing open highway surgery."

For AFI, the "Protection Under One Roof" campaign was targeted to promote the client's car insurance business. Newspaper and magazine ads, both in English and Spanish, encourage consumers who are considering or have purchased other AFI products, such as home or life insurance, to select the carrier for their other insurance needs and keep all the household policies "under one roof."

A national panel of SIAA judges evaluated over 1,500 entries in 25 categories for execution, creativity, quality, consumer appeal and overall content. "The third annual SIAA Awards continues to expand faster than our expectations," commented Jan Michael Lok, Executive Director of the SIAA Awards. The Service Industry Advertising Awards, started in 2003, is the only honor created to recognize advertising excellence within the service industry. Entries were received from all 50 states and four foreign countries.

E. Morris Communications, Inc. is a full service agency that provides integrated marketing communications services to multicultural markets, with emphasis on the African American consumer segment. The 18-year old agency has a client roster that includes Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, American Family Insurance and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
