Safeway names
Russell M. Jackson senior vice president, human resources (March
20, 2007) Russell M. Jackson has joined Safeway Inc. as Senior Vice
President, Human Resources. Jackson
is the first African American to hold this position at Safeway, one of the
largest food and drug retailers in North America. Jackson comes to Safeway after spending 27 years at PG&E
Corporation, where he served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources.
At Safeway,
Jackson will be responsible for all aspects of Human Resources function,
including employee relations, compensation, training, leadership
development, recruiting, health and wellness and prevention programs.
Jackson graduated from San Jose State University. He also has an MBA from
St. Mary’s College and a master’s degree in Human Resources and
Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco, along
with a certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of
California at Berkeley.
Safeway Inc. is a Fortune 50 company and one of the largest food and drug
retailers in North America. The company operates 1,761 stores in the U.S.
and Canada and had annual sales of $40.2 billion in 2006. Safeway’s
common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SWY.
