Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of March 5 - 11
BET's 'The Game' holds on to No.1 over Oprah's Whitney Houston special
(March
18, 2012) For the first time since launching in January of last year,
the Oprah Winfrey Network has made it to the Top 25 chart of favorite
cable shows in black households. An exclusive interview with Whitney
Houston's family attracted 2.3 million black viewers to the OWN special.
BET, however, captured the No.1 spot. While OWN had a slightly larger
audience than BET's "The Game," Oprah's special had a slightly lower
rating.
BET also held on to the distinction of most watched cable network for
the week, with 6.5 million tuning in five shows. VH1 attracted 5five
million for four of its programs for second place. OWN earned third
place with 3.1 million for two airing of its Whitney Houston special.
Nielsen says that 27 million black viewers watched tall the Top 25 cable
shows. That's a drop of six percent from the previous week.
