Thanks to ‘American Idol’ Fox beats CBS again in the battle for black viewers
 
(March 13, 2007) The unstoppable popularity of “American Idol” kept the Fox network at the top of the list of the 25 most popular shows among black households. The talent competition took first, second and third place for the first full week in March. “Idol” also delivered half of the 15.5 million black homes that watched all nine Fox shows on the chart, which made it the second place winner among network

The ten shows that CBS claimed on the top 25 that made it the network winner. NBC posted three shows, followed by ABC with two and the CW’s one entry

The total number of black households watching the top 25, according to Nielsen Media Research, was 34.2 million, an almost ten percent decline from the previous week.

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
