Tribune Broadcasting names Devin C. Johnson SVP, Head of Digital Media

(March 11, 2014) Tribune Broadcasting has announced Devin C. Johnson has been named SVP, Head of Digital Media. Johnson will be responsible for product development, social media, content, technology and digital sales strategy. Johnson, who began his media career at Tribune Interactive, returned to Tribune on March 10, reporting to Larry Wert, President/Broadcast Media.

After leaving Tribune, Johnson spent seven years at NBC Universal in financial and digital roles.  He worked in the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis group and led the Digital Media Finance team.  Johnson also led NBCU's Digital innovation efforts, where he was responsible for developing new business models in mobile and gaming. His last role at NBCU was General Manager of Digital Works @NBCU, the company's content marketing business responsible for launching successful content ventures with Procter & Gamble.

"Devin has both the vision and the operational experience to help Tribune Broadcasting redefine how we serve our audience," said Wert. "He is an innovative leader with a record of success and we look forward to having him back in the Tribune family."

Johnson also served as Chief Operating Officer for Studio One Networks where he was responsible for operational oversight of the brand-aligned content creation and distribution company.  Since arriving back in Chicago, Johnson has served as a principal at a Silicon Valley based Digital Media consultancy and has been advising local start-ups.

"As one of the largest broadcast groups in the country, Tribune Broadcasting has an amazing collection of assets with national scale," said Johnson. "I look forward to joining the great team Larry has assembled and building and executing a best in class digital solution for advertisers and consumers."

Johnson holds an MBA in Business Administration from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Michigan.  In 2011, Johnson was awarded the Next Generation Leader award by the National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC). Johnson has served on several boards including USA Taekwondo, Democracy Prep Charter School and The Harlem School of the Arts.

Johnson will remain in his native Chicago, where he lives with his family.
