Radio One's WDNI Indianapolis TV station becomes a Telemundo affiliate

(March 12, 2013) As of yesterday WDNI, the Radio One owned television station in Indianapolis, became a Telemundo affiliate and is the only local Spanish-language broadcast station in the market. Telemundo Indy is broadcasting on over-the-air channel 19 and will also be available to all subscribers of Comcast, Brighthouse and AT&T U-verse, giving the station full coverage of Indianapolis' Hispanic population.

This the first time in five years that a television station in the Indianapolis market to carry Spanish-language programming since WIIH-CA dropped Univision in 2008. The station plans to develop a news department and eventually produce nightly Spanish-language local newscasts.

WDNI TV-Channel 19, will offer Telemundo's full line-up of high-quality original Spanish-language programming, including novelas, news, sports, entertainment, and specials, serving the market's growing Hispanic community and offering advertisers a powerful new platform to reach this important demographic segment.

"We are excited to bring Telemundo's proven programming to Indy's Spanish-speaking community which has experienced significant growth over the past several years," said Chuck Williams. "We plan to complement Telemundo's national programming with locally produced content to deliver a truly relevant product to our viewers, and soon, locally produced news"

Williams will be General Manager of Telemundo Indy, and also serves as Vice President and Market Manager for Radio One's four highly successful Indianapolis Radio stations (WNOU FM, WHHH FM, WTLC FM and WTLC AM).

"Telemundo is pleased to expand its footprint in the Indianapolis market and we are excited by WDNI's plans to fully serve the emerging Hispanic community with local programming and community events to complement our strong line-up of programming," said Ann Gaulke, Senior Vice President, Affiliate Relations, for the Telemundo Network.

Telemundo Indy has already formed strong strategic partnerships with some key Hispanic individuals and organizations, including the Hispanic Business Council. A Community Advisory Board, comprised of Hispanic leaders in the education, health, immigration, and media fields, is being organized to help guide the station's development in the areas of community outreach and local programming, and will provide the "voice of the customer," especially critical during the station's first year.
