Lynn Norment, long time editor for Ebony magazine, opens media relations firm

(March 11, 2013) Former award-winning magazine editor Lynn Norment has announced the formation of her company, Lynn Norment Media, which will offer media relations and editorial services to individuals, agencies and corporations.

Most recently Norment worked with Carol H. Williams Advertising, one of the nation's largest African-American and female-owned full-service advertising agencies. At CHWA, Norment advised the president/CEO on media issues for the agency and its clients, and helped to execute various projects for clients that included the U.S. Army, AARP, the Chicago Teacher's Union and FELD Entertainment.

As a long time editor with Ebony magazine, Norment authored hundreds of magazine articles, including research and investigative pieces and personality profiles. In addition, Norment produced hundreds of photography sessions, including celebrity covers and home/lifestyle photography shoots for national publication.

In 2009, Norment was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame in “recognition of her accomplishments and contributions to journalism.”  That same year, the University of Memphis honored Norment with its 2009 Distinguished Alumna Award. In 1991, Memphis State's Journalism Department honored her as its Outstanding Journalism Alumna.

Dedicated to giving back to the community, Norment also is a board member of Habilitative Systems Inc., a social service agency that operates programs to help needy residents on Chicago's impoverished West Side.  As chair of HSI's Fundraising Committee, in the early 1990s she launched the agency's "Jazz With Pizzazz" fundraiser, which over the years has raised hundreds of thousands of unrestricted dollars for the agency. For years, Norment taught journalism courses at Columbia College Chicago, and she continues to mentor young journalists. She recently was appointed to the Advisory Board of Columbia College Link's journalism program for high school students.
