Lagrant Communications launches public affairs division focused on women
(March 3, 2014) Lagrant Communications, an integrated marketing and communications firm today announced it has launched POLISH, a new public affairs division that will promote and support women of color seeking elected office at the local, regional, and national level. POLISH will also work to position talented women to serve in senior staff positions in political and governmental offices.
"With the California State Senate only being 30 percent women, and the California State Assembly following close behind at 28 percent, it is imperative that women gain more representation in our key political sectors," said President and CEO Mr. Kim L. Hunter.
"I've devoted considerable time and effort to supporting women's issues and promoting public policy changes of benefit to women over the last 20 years, including serving on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA), among others. POLISH is the result of that work and my substantial personal interest," said Hunter.
POLISH will specialize in client message development, strategic communications, media training, media relations, speech writing, image building, media planning and buying, collateral development and production, special event management, community organizing, and forming relationships with key influencers for fundraising development purposes.
According to Close The Gap CA, a statewide campaign that focuses on increasing the number of women in the California legislature, over a 10-year timespan the women representation in the California state legislature has steadily declined. Additionally, the percentage of women of color in California state politics dropped from 44 percent to 32 percent.
A noted advocate for women, Mr. Hunter has hosted roundtable discussions, policy dinners and strategic counseling gatherings for women interested in pursuing politics and elected office as one of their professional goals. He recently held a women's dinner that focused on the critical elements needed for the development of successful women candidates for elected office and/or senior staff level public policy positions. As a result, POLISH has been able to secure additional progressive women as clients.
Mr. Hunter recently spearheaded a private fundraising reception and community swearing-in ceremony for California State Senator Holly J. Mitchell and oversaw brand development for U.S. Representative Karen Bass, a former Speaker of the California State Assembly.

POLISH has been retained by Ms. Sydney Kamlager, district director for Senator Mitchell (D-26) and Ms. Francesca Vega, director of Government and Community Relations for California State University, Northridge.
Ms. Kamlager has more than 20-years of professional experience in the non-profit, entertainment and policy sectors. Ms. Vega has been active in the political and public policy arenas in Sacramento and Los Angeles for more than 13-years. Both women intend to pursue seats on the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees.
