REACH Media appoints Barry Cooper as Vice
President Interactive (February
27, 2008) Officials at REACH Media have confirmed that Barry Cooper,
founder of the pioneering Web site, BlackVoices.com, has been hired as the
company's Vice President of Interactive. The story was first reported by
Richard Prince's Journal-isms column.
Cooper, who is currently the online managing editor at the
Virginian-Pilot, will oversee BlackAmericaWeb.com. The site, best known
for its creator, radio superstar Tom Joyner, attracts 30,000 unique
visitors daily.
REACH Media's primary shareholder is Radio One, and presumably Cooper will
have some role in the larger firm's interactive plans in the future.
Known as one of the interactive industry's leading visionaries, Cooper has
been at the forefront of digital media targeted to African-Americans for
more than a decade. He started BlackVoices.com in 1996 while working at
the Orlando Sentinel. With financial backing from the paper's parent,
Tribune Corp., Cooper grew the site into a news and social networking
destination with nearly a million registered online members. In 2004
Tribune sold the site to AOL which continues to operate it today as AOL
BlackVoices.
