Radio
One's Indianapolis station and mayor's office settle differences
From Radio Ink
(February 18, 2008) Two weeks after Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard's
press secretary told city department heads not to correspond with, appear
on, or advertise with Radio One's Gospel WTLC-AM/Indianapolis, the ban has
been lifted, the Indianapolis Star reports.
The ban was imposed January 30, says the paper, and WTLC host Amos Brown
said in a column in the Indianapolis Recorder that the mayor's
office was retaliating for criticism of Ballard on Brown's Afternoons
With Amos program. Brown said the boycott illustrated a "lack of
understanding of the role media play in this or any other city."
Ballard's press secretary, Marcus Barlow, said the ban was lifted February
15 after a meeting between city and station officials.
