Basketball and Disney claim most watched cable programming for the week

(February 8, 2006) Basketball and “The Mouse” led the most watched cable programs by black households during the first week of February. The NBA pushed TNT to first and second place on the top 25 cable favorites, and the league racked up four of the top five spots. However, the Disney channel managed to improve its strong showing last week. Its regular programs claimed five winners overall and trumped most of the movie offerings on the list. BET’s movie of the week kept the channel in the top ten after its coup last week of taking the top three spots.

The Lifetime Channel,
TNT, USA and BET each had three winners on the top 25. The total audience for the top 25 shows dropped by 23 percent from 1.5 million black households to 1.1, according to Nielsen figures.

Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
