TV Ratings for Week of Jan. 28 - Feb. 3
Super Bowl XLII the biggest ever in viewership; Fox is week's top network

(February 5, 2008) The most anticipated NFL match-up in years gave Fox a historic ratings winner. In addition to the curiosity of seeing if the New England Patriots could finish their season without a single loss, Fox benefited from the N.Y. Giants delivering a victory and the nation's biggest TV market. More than 10 black viewers watched the game and nearly eight million stayed for the post game show.

When the game is coupled with perennial winner, "American Idol," Fox claimed an unprecedented top seven positions on the week's top 25 most popular shows. With 12 programs overall, it easily won top network honors. CBS followed with five, with ABC taking four. NBC posted three and the CW had one.

The total number of viewers watching the top 25 was 56.6 million, a 40 percent increase over the previous week’s total.
