Lagrant Communications opens entertainment and sports practice

(February 2, 2006) Lagrant Communications has announced the addition of its entertainment and sports (E&S) practice and has named Christina M. Branson (left) managing director.

The new practice will specialize in developing integrated marketing campaigns for entertainment (including film, television, music, literature) and sports clients who strive to reach urban audiences.  Utilizing a blend of celebrity procurement, entertainment marketing, identity development, product placement and event planning, the E&S team will fuse the corporate and entertainment worlds to create strategic alliances with new and existing clients.

“The creation and launch of the new E&S practice goes beyond our firm’s longstanding dedication of advancing diversity via multiple outlets.  It demonstrates our full-fledged commitment to work on behalf of our clients to create the most innovative and effective branding opportunities,” says Kim L. Hunter, president and CEO of Lagrant Communications.

As managing director, Branson will be responsible for the overall business development of the practice as well as establishing innovative and appropriate branding opportunities for the firm’s clients.  In her last position as account director, Branson served as the lead for The Absolut Spirits Company, Inc. and Union Bank of California accounts.

“This addition presents a win-win situation for companies and celebrities who desire to make an impact and maintain presence in the marketplace,” commented Branson.  “I am excited to be part of this endeavor and look forward to the successes as well as the challenges ahead.”

Branson has coordinated activities for hip hop icon, Jay Z’s anniversary event for his 40-40 Club in New York; award-winning journalist, Tavis Smiley’s SuccesSoul Gala; jazz legend Eddie Palmieri concerts at Harlem-based Aaron Davis Hall and launch events for Absolut Vodka. She has also worked with lifestyle expert and restaurateur B. Smith and actress Persia White of the hit-sitcom Girlfriends.

Branson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Communication Studies from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Latest 'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life

As the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
