The
Week of January 22 - 28
CBS’s
popularity with black households continues its streak of chart dominance
(January
31, 2007) Crime shows and courtroom dramas are giving CBS a solid block of
consistent winners with black households. With the “CSI” franchise leading
the way, the network again was the overall winner with black households.
CBS had nine shows on the list of top 25 most popular programs with
African-American during the fourth week of January.
Fox’s ”American Idol” found its two shows in their usual position atop the
chart. The talent show claimed nearly six and a half million black homes
for its two airings. Fox had six shows on the top 25. ABC and the CW each
posted four, while NBC had two.
The total number of black households watching the top 25 shows was 33.9
million, a 20 percent decrease over the previous week.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
