BET wins the Triple Crown of Top 25 Cable Shows in black homes with ‘Beef’
(February
1, 2006) BET shook up the usual rankings of the top 25 primetime cable
shows in black households with the airing of “Beef.” The three-part
documentary that chronicles the early development of hip-hop won the
first, second and third positions with BET’s three airings of the first
installment. The NBA attracted its usual audience for TNT and ESPN, but
the other winner in sports was the Australian Open on ESPN2, which
captured the sixth, twelfth and last spots.
Disney had a strong showing with four winners on the list. Lifetime’s
movie offerings picked up three positions. The overall audience for the
top 25 for the fourth week in January was 1.513 million households, a drop
of 12.5 percent over the previous week’s total.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.

report, African-American households are tightening their belts when it
