VH1’s spin-off
reality series, ‘I Love New York,’ is top show in black households
(January
26, 2007) The saga of Flavor Flave’s love interest, New York (aka Tiffany
Patterson), rolls on in VH1’s spin-off reality series, “I Love New York.”
The show walked away with the number one spot for top cable programs among
black households during the third week of January. In fact, is it was the
only chartmaker with one million homes.
The overall winner for the week was the Disney Channel, which claimed
eight entries on the top 25 cable shows in black households. BET notched
four shows, while VH1, Nickelodeon and TNT all had three winners.
The total number of black homes watching the top 25, according to Nielsen
Media Research, was 14.59 million. That’s a 12 percent increase over the
previous week’s audience of 13 million.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
