The Week of Jan. 16 - 22
Fame and football are the themes for Fox's five winning shows

(January 26, 2006) Amateur artists and gridiron athletes dominated the top ten most popular shows in black households during the third week of January. Fox’s “American Idol” captured its usual place atop the list. The Tuesday and Wednesday shows took first and second place, each attracting a whooping three million-plus homes. The network’s coverage of the matchup between the Caroline Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks put it on the chart with the game and the post game shows. The Fox network had five winning shows (if you can call a 5-minute post game wrap-up a show) on the top ten.

UPN had to settle for placing just two winners among the ten, with CBS doing as well. Is this a omen of things to come when the WB and UPN are combined? ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” continues to find favor in African-American homes. Overall, the number of homes watching the top ten jumped nearly 30 percent from 17.9 million homes to 23.1 million.
