America launch award for Magazine Mentor of the Year
24, 2008) Magazine Publishers of America has created a brand new award
called "Magazine Mentor of the Year," recognizing a member of the
community who has aided a fellow magazine professionalís career and
promoted inclusion in the industry . This was announced today -- Thank
Your Mentor Day -- by Shaunice Hawkins, Vice President of Diversity &
Multicultural Initiatives, MPA. The winning candidate will be honored at a
special awards breakfast on June 5, in New York City.
"The Magazine Mentor of the Year, part of our ongoing effort to improve
inclusion in the community, puts a spotlight on the individual whose
generosity in time and counsel is empowering other magazine professionals
to achieve great things in the business," said Ms. Hawkins.
Candidates must be nominated by an employee of an MPA member company
and/or individual member of the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME). Self-nominations
will also be accepted. Nominations will be accepted from now until April
The award will celebrate the best candidate who challenges all within his
or her sphere of influence to create meaningful change and positive social
impact within the magazine industry and beyond; promotes a better
understanding and valuing of inclusion and equity within the magazine
industry; has made a personal commitment to developing the next generation
of magazine leaders; and whose contributions and strong leadership serve
as examples for all who would mirror his/her career path.
