Nightly Business
Report, Black Enterprise join for MLK Day programming
(January 15, 2008) PBS Network's Nightly Business Report, the most watched
daily business news program on television, will team up with Black
Enterprise, the premier business and financial resource for African
Americans, for a special program called American Dreamers. The program
will feature three young African American entrepreneurs pursuing the
American dream:
American Dreamers airs Jan. 21, 2008, on Martin Luther King Day (during
Nightly Business Report's regularly scheduled time periods) and features a
roundtable discussion about the challenges facing minority entrepreneurs
led by Nightly Business Report anchor Susie Gharib. Her guests include
Black Enterprise Editorial Director Alan Hughes and Dr. Thomas Boston,
economist and founder of the Gazelle Index. Gharib will also talk
one-on-one with William Mays, founder of Indianapolis-based Mays Chemical
Co., about what it took to build his $172 million-a-year business and his
new role as angel investor to an up-and-coming entrepreneur.
"By discussing the challenges of today's African American entrepreneurs
and profiling those who are succeeding in today's tough business climate,
our collaboration with Nightly Business Report offers great insight into
the state of black business," says Alan Hughes, Black Enterprise Editorial
Director. Hughes worked closely with the NBR team to put the program
together. "I'm looking forward to more such projects in the future."
"This is our first partnership with Black Enterprise magazine and it has
been terrific for both of us," said Rodney Ward, executive editor and
senior vice president, Nightly Business Report. "We are already in
discussions to extend our relationship beyond the American Dreamers
special edition."
For almost three decades, the award-winning Nightly Business Report has
provided business news in a fast-paced format. Timely investment
information helps viewers manage their money and stay abreast of news that
affects their portfolios. Nightly Business Report premiered as a Miami
regional program on Jan. 22, 1979, with national distribution beginning in
1981. Nightly Business Report is distributed live to public television
stations at 6:30 p.m. EST every weeknight. Local broadcast times vary.
Since 1970, Black Enterprise has provided essential business information
and advice to professionals, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and
