Wendy Williams signs
agreement with Westwood One for Feb. 4th debut
(January
17, 2008) The Wendy Williams Experience, hosted by the “Queen of Urban
Radio”, Wendy Williams will make it’s Westwood One debut February 4th,
announced today Thomas Beusse, President & CEO of Westwood One. The daily
four-hour syndicated program will feature exclusive entertainment news,
celebrity gossip, advice, listener phone calls, and candid interviews with
special guests. The Westwood One debut of The Wendy Williams Experience
marks the first time the program will be heard in Los Angeles, airing on
KDAY-FM.
“It’s with great enthusiasm that I make this, my first announcement as CEO
of this great company,” said Beusse. “It is our mission to attract the
best talent, create extraordinary content and deliver it at the highest
standards. Wendy Williams is a household name in New York as she will
undoubtedly be in Los Angeles and beyond.”
“Finally being on the air in Los Angeles is part of a dream come true,”
said Williams. “The other part of my dream is to be the most captivating,
thought-provoking radio personality in town. Call the stars! Wendy’s comin'
to Hollywood and taking no prisoners!”
“A programming partnership with Inner City Broadcasting which brings to
Westwood One affiliates like WBLS and the remarkable talents of Wendy
Williams is a major event for us. We look forward to building this
important relationship,” added Norman Pattiz, Founder and Chairman of
Westwood One.
“Wendy Williams is a tremendous talent. She is consistently the number one
Air Personality in her time slot in the number one market in the country
and I am sure she will do exceptionally well in Los Angeles,” said WBLS
General Manager Deon Levingston. In 1989, Williams began her on-air radio
career as a fill-in DJ for WRKS "98.7 Kiss FM" in New York City. The
station soon hired her full-time for its morning show and year later moved
Williams to her own 6-10 p.m. shift.
In 1993, she won the Billboard Award for “Best On-Air Radio Personality”
and the following year, Emmis Broadcasting, which bought out Kiss FM,
moved Williams to the Company's New York urban station WQHT-FM “Hot 97”.
In 2001, Williams moved to WBLS-FM hosting from 2-6 p.m. (7 p.m. in the
New York metropolitan area).
Since 2003, Williams has hosted the highest rated (per time slot) weekday
syndicated radio program, The Wendy Williams Experience originating from
WBLS-FM in New York City. She has hosted several installments of the cable
TV special Wendy Williams is on Fire for VH1, and on October 20, 2006, The
Wendy Williams Experience premiered as a late-night series on the USA
cable network.
Williams has published several books including the paperback novel Drama
is Her Middle Name: The Ritz Harper Chronicles Vol. 1 (2006), co-authored
by Karen Hunter. The details of William’s life will hit the big screen
with the 2008 release of the film Queen of Media.
