BlackAmericaWeb.com reaches milestone of one million members

(January 11, 2005) Fueled by promotion on radio's popular syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, BlackAmericaWeb.com has reached a milestone of one million registered members.

"We set out to make BlackAmericaWeb.com the site where everyone can come together to get news, play games, listen to the radio show and just have fun," said Joyner, whose show is aired on some 115 markets and heard by nearly 8 million listeners. "We're doing that now and we're just really getting started."

The website. which was launced in June 2001, also produces a weekly newsletter that
has an opt-in circulation of more than 500,000

"BlackAmericaWeb.com publishes original and relevant news stories regarding what America is talking about, from an African-American perspective," says Katrina Witherspoon who oversees internet operations as VP Interactive Media. "Our unique combination of original news, interactive games and audio features keep our members coming back to the website each day to find content that cannot be found anywhere else on the Internet."

In the coming weeks, BlackAmericaWeb.com will publish "The State of Black America," that coincides annually with the State of the Union Address. The site also features an assortment of provocative commentaries by Maryland Democratic Senatorial Candidate Kweisi Mfume, conservative columnist Joseph C. Phillips and the outspoken Judge Greg Mathis.

Coming seasonal features will include and online dating offers for Valentine's Day and Black History Month featuring the Tom Joyner Morning Show's recurring feature "The Little Known Black History Fact."

Last year, in response to Hurricane Katrina, Joyner created the BlackAmericaWeb.com Relief Fund, to aid relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina, and has raised more than one million dollars in funding using grassroots efforts alone.
