Urban Television Network signs an agreement with Nielsen Media Research
(January
11, 2006) Urban Television Network Corporation and its UATV Network today
announced that it has signed an agreement with Nielsen Media Research for
National and Local Syndication Service.
Nielsen, the leading provider of television and audience measurement
services, measures the viewing habits of TV homes including the urban
consumers who view the UATV programming.
The agreement will allow UATV to use Nielsen Media Research data for
marketing, programming and advertiser purposes. UATV can use the data from
Nielsen to guarantee advertisers a specific number of viewers for their
advertisements. This agreement with Nielsen Media Research finalizes the
earlier disclosure regarding Nielsen made by UATV on October 26, 2005.
"We are delighted to complete this agreement with UATV," said Kevin
Svenningsen, senior vice president, sales and marketing, for Nielsen Media
Research. "We believe UATV has the potential to be one of the next major
broadcast networks."
"We're committed to delivering measurable results to advertisers wanting
to reach the 80 million urban consumers," said Jacob Miles, CEO of Urban
Television Network Corporation. "This agreement put UATV one step closer
in completing the makeover of UATV and becoming a national broadcast
network. We are excited about working with Nielsen in measuring this
growing marketplace."
"We are firmly committed to the urban community and this relationship with
UATV demonstrates that Nielsen is responsive and dedicated to this
enormous market segment," said Susan D. Whiting, Chief Executive Officer
of Nielsen Media Research.
Fort Worth, Texas based Urban Television Network Corporation is a
television network composed of broadcast television station affiliates
across the country that airs programming supplied by the network via
satellite transmission. The network is the first and only minority
certified network to specifically target America's urban market that is

many other urban consumers.
The network has approximately 70 affiliates with a household coverage of

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while

electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
According to the newest edition of “The Buying Power of Black America”
report, African-American households are tightening their belts when it
comes to dining out, expanding their wardrobes, and leisure activities out
of the home. At the same time, they are increasing their spending on home
