AOL Black Voices launches
books feature with Star Jones Reynolds
(January
10, 2006) AOL Black Voices has announced the launch of a new books area
with Star Jones Reynolds' new book “Shine: a Physical, Emotional and
Spiritual Journey to Finding Love.” As part of the new area, users will be
able to experience Reynold's new work through exclusive reviews, featured
excerpts, tutorials, fun quizzes and self-assessment exercises.
Additionally, Reynolds, a co-host of ABC-TV's "The View," has signed on to
be the new Love Coach on AOL.com. The AOL Coaches program is an
all-encompassing self-improvement website providing solutions and answers
to people's most pressing questions. As part of the program, Reynolds will
provide exclusive video tips and commentary to millions of book
enthusiasts.
"We are thrilled to launch this new forum to provide audiences with a
destination to learn more about and engage black authors and topics that
matter to our community," said Nick Charles, Editor in Chief, AOL Black
Voices. "We are sure that through this area, members of the black
community and the wider community will be able to express their opinions
and explore all types of literature including fiction, non-fiction and
poetry."
Other books to be featured on AOL Black Voices this month include Dr.
Michael Eric Dyson's Come Hell or High Water: Hurricane Katrina and the
Color of Disaster and Paul Beatty's upcoming release Hokum: an Anthology
of African-American Humor.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As
the American economy continues to move sluggishly, African-American
households are curtailing their spending in many categories, including
food, clothing and basic household items, while investing more in home
repair, home entertainment and consumer electronics. Although they are
trimming back, black consumers are still spending more than their white
counterparts on most of these products.
