Central City Productions acquires "America's Black Forum" from UniWorld
(January 6, 2006) According to media critic Richard Prince’s
column
Journal-isms, the syndicated public
affairs television show "America's Black Forum" has been sold to Central
City Productions, the Chicago-based company that produces the "Stellar
Gospel Music Awards."
Don Jackson (above), founder, chairman and CEO of 32-year-old Central City
Productions, Inc., a national television production, sales and syndication
company, told Journal-isms that his company bought the 29-year old program
from the black-owned UniWorld Group advertising agency. Byron Lewis Jr.,
the show's Washington-based executive producer and son of Byron Lewis,
chairman of UniWorld, told Journal-isms that the sale was effective Jan. 1
and that the transfer seemed to be "a good thing for all parties," given
Jackson's
experience in sales.
Central City also co-produces “The Black
Enterprise Report” with the magazine for which it’s named. Launched in
November 2003, the syndicated weekly half-hour television series focuses
on African American financial and personal empowerment.
Hosted by Jim Brown and Juan Williams, ABF is syndicated in 70 major
markets and is also carried by the TV One cable network. Johnathan
Rodgers, CEO of TV One, has cited "America's Black Forum" as an example of
its public affairs offerings. "We're proud to every Sunday air 'America's
Black Forum,' because one of the great complaints here in the nation's
capital is that the African American leaders do not get a chance on Sunday
morning television," he said last week on National Public Radio's "News
and Notes."

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
According to the newest edition of “The Buying Power of Black America”
report, African-American households are tightening their belts when it
comes to dining out, expanding their wardrobes, and leisure activities out
of the home. At the same time, they are increasing their spending on home
repairs and remodeling, audio and...
